About Lötscher

Profile of the company

Founded in 1920 Robert Lötscher Ltd is the only genuine Swiss brand of cuckoo clocks in existence today. In the year 1956 our company has been known for having added the features of music and dancing figurines.

Lötscher company operates two facilities in different parts of Switzerland which have specific duties in the manufacturing of the clocks. All of the initial steps involved in building the clocks are done in the woodcarving facility in Brienz, a small village in central Switzerland (Canton of Berne). It is known for its artisans in the woodworking and woodcarving craft. The area has a storied reputation and it’s generally known that highest quality woodcarving in all of Europe comes from this small community. The finished clock bodies are then shipped to the final assembly plant in Fällanden, not far from Zurich.

Production in Brienz

All clocks are made from linden wood. They are handmade, hand carved and manually assembled in Brienz. The special wood is aged for several years to ensure that the clocks won’t warp or crack in humid or dry environments. While this is the most expensive way to manufacture clocks it’s also what separates Lötscher cuckoo clocks from others.

Each carved model consists at least 146 different pieces and every chalet is accurately reproduced and artistically portrayed in a traditional example of Swiss handicraft.

Production in Zurich

In Fällanden, near Zurich, the movements are assembled and positioned into the clocks. In a final step the weights, pendulums, on/off switches and other parts are being installed.

The clocks are then precisely tested for at least 10 days to guarantee most satisfying results for both Lötscher and the customers.
